Introduction Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. believes that spiritual formation is a vital component of a college student’s moral development. As Christian trial attorneys, we are pleased to continue our annual Robert S. Simmons Christian Studies Scholarship, awarding a first-place scholarship of $1,000.00 and a runner-up prize of $500.00. We understand the financial pressures facing students and their families and are honored to support the winners of this essay competition. Eligibility To be considered for the Robert S. Simmons Christian Studies Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following requirements: - Be a lawful U.S. permanent resident or a U.S. citizen. - Be enrolled in, or accepted to and planning to attend, a Christian college or university as an undergraduate in the fall term of the scholarship year. - Be actively involved in volunteer or community service. - Submit a completed scholarship application. - Provide a completed essay of at least 1,000 words in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx). - Name the submitted file with your own name as the document title. - Not have previously received this scholarship in any earlier year. Submissions that fail to satisfy these criteria will not be reviewed. By sending a complete application, finalists consent to have their essay published on our blog should they be selected as a winner. Essay Guidelines - Length: Minimum 1,000 words. - Format: Typed, double-spaced, 12-point legible font, submitted in Word format. - Topic: Explain, in detail, how Christian education and Christian business leaders strengthen the moral fabric of the United States. Also describe how a Christian education has benefited or will benefit you personally, and how it will equip you to be a leader among your peers. Deadline and Awards All application materials and the required essay must be received by Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. no later than July 1 of each year. The first-place recipient will be awarded $1,000.00 to assist with college expenses; the second-place recipient will receive $500.00. Winners will be announced on or before August 1 each year. Notification and Publication Winners will be contacted by email and their names will be posted on our website, social media channels, and through an official press release. As noted above, winners consent to publication of their essays on our blog. Questions If you have any questions about the application process or eligibility, please contact our office.
