First Responders Scholarship

McCraw Law Group is honored to offer the First Responders Scholarship: a $1,000 award for a student who demonstrates a distinct appreciation for and insight into the work of first responders. These men and women confront traumatic injuries and deep emotional distress daily, yet they often do not receive the recognition or mental health support they deserve.
First responders answer calls for help regardless of time, place, or danger. From natural disasters and fires to acts of violence, they run toward peril while others flee. Their careers — and the lives of their families and colleagues — are often defined by sacrifice, and some even give their lives protecting others. At McCraw Law Group, we respect and support these professionals and created this scholarship to honor their service. If you are preparing to become a first responder, are a first responder pursuing additional education, or have been profoundly affected by a first responder, we want to read your story.
Eligibility
- Must be enrolled at a college, university, graduate program, or law school; GED holders planning to start college in the upcoming semester are also eligible.
- Minimum GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Applicants may live outside Texas, but preference will be given to students in McKinney, Denton, Frisco, Wylie, Amarillo, and Sulphur Springs.
Application Requirements
To be considered, submit the following:
- A current resume
- A school transcript
- An essay (500–1,000 words) that addresses:
- The role first responders play in contemporary society and how their duties support public safety
- How your personal experience — as a first responder, an aspiring first responder, or a family member/individual impacted by a first responder — has influenced your life
- Suggestions for how communities, employers, or policymakers can better support first responders in their difficult work
Deadline and Submission
- Application deadline: August 31, 2026.
