Once again, HIFICU is stepping up to support Hawaii's students in their quest for higher education. We're thrilled to announce the re-launch of the Hawaiian Financial Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program.
We're providing twenty scholarships, each worth $2,000.00. These scholarships are open to high school seniors on the verge of graduation or college students aiming to continue their education at any accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- The applicant must be a member or a legal dependent of a member with a HIFICU account that has been in good standing for at least 3 consecutive months before the application deadline.
- The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
- The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The scholarship committee will evaluate applicants based on the following criteria:
- ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT - Evaluated based on the applicant's official transcript.
- LEADERSHIP - Assessed based on leadership roles, school/work activities, honors, awards, and other experiences.
- SCHOOL/COMMUNITY SERVICE - Evaluated based on the quality and impact of the applicant's service to their school and/or community.
- RECOMMENDATION - Based on letters of recommendation.
- MERIT - Assessed based on the applicant's essay.
APPLICATION CHECKLIST
Please use this checklist to ensure your application package is complete before submission:
- A fully completed application form with original signatures. If the applicant is a minor, a parent or legal guardian's signature is required. Applications without original signatures will be disqualified.
Please keep your responses within the application form. Additional attachments or inserts will NOT be considered. The application package MUST be postmarked by November 17, 2025.
- Two (2) original signed letters of recommendation from individuals who are neither related to nor living with the applicant. These letters must be dated within one year of the application submission date.
- Certified sealed school transcripts. Schools may also mail transcripts directly to the address provided.
DEADLINE
The completed application, certified transcripts, and two (2) letters of recommendation MUST be postmarked by November 17, 2025. Please do not submit scholarship applications or supporting documents via email. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered or returned.
EVALUATION AND AWARDING
The Scholarship Program judges will assess each application based on the above criteria. The Committee will make award decisions by December 5, 2025. Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail at the address provided on the application. Scholarship funds will be sent directly to the student's financial aid office to be applied towards tuition and fees related to degree attainment. Scholarship recipients will be asked to sign a Media Release Form and provide a photograph. We reserve the right to request proof of the applicant's status as a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Failure to provide such proof in a timely manner may result in disqualification of the scholarship application.
