Overview
The Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans (JCCIA) awards scholarships from the Frank J. Vigilante Scholarship Fund to students of Italian extraction who demonstrate financial need and strong academic performance. Awards support students admitted to or enrolled at accredited institutions of higher education in Illinois. Selection considers heritage, demonstrated need, academic achievement, and the applicant’s written essay and application quality. The program provides one-time annual scholarships to help recipients pursue their personal and professional goals.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate Italian heritage, financial need, and high academic achievement to be competitive for the award. Candidates must be residents of the State of Illinois and provide proof of admission to or enrollment at an accredited institution of higher education. The application requires a 500-word (or less) essay describing how the scholarship will support the applicant’s goals. Recipients are chosen based on heritage, need, academic record, essay quality, and the overall strength of the application.

Award Amount
Scholarship awards may be granted as a one-time annual payment. The maximum award amount for the Frank J. Vigilante Scholarship is up to $5,000. Awards are intended to offset education-related expenses to help recipients continue their postsecondary studies.

Application Process
Applicants must complete the JCCIA Frank J. Vigilante scholarship application and attach any required documentation as indicated on the form. The application is available on the JCCIA website and must be submitted electronically as one complete single PDF file to jcc@jccia.com. Incomplete submissions or multiple separate files may result in denial of the application. Follow the application instructions carefully to ensure consideration by the Scholarship Committee.

Application Timeline and Award Notification
To be considered, students must submit a complete application and required documentation beginning June 1, 2026 and by the stated application due date. Award recipients will be notified by the JCCIA by December 1, 2026. Selected recipients are expected to attend the December JCCIA Christmas Party for the scholarship award presentation. Applicants should monitor deadlines and notification dates to ensure timely participation in award events.
