Joseph U. Bottalla Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans
The Joseph U. Bottalla Scholarship, sponsored by the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans (JCCIA), is available to students who are residents of Illinois with at least 50% Italian heritage. The scholarship is awarded to those who have been studying the Italian language for a minimum of two years or are currently enrolled in an Italian language course in either high school or college. Additionally, applicants must be accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited higher education institution.
Eligibility Criteria:
Eligible candidates must be residents of Illinois with at least 50% Italian heritage, have a minimum of two years of Italian language study or be currently enrolled in an Italian language course in high school or college. They must also be accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited higher education institution. A 500-word essay on the topic of "how your Italian heritage has influenced you" is required. The selection of scholarship recipients is based on the aforementioned criteria, the quality of the essay, and the quality of the JCCIA Joseph U. Bottalla Scholarship Application. Proof of Italian language study or current enrollment, as well as admission or enrollment at an accredited higher education institution, must be provided (e.g., transcripts, acceptance letter).
Scholarship Amount:
The scholarship amount can be up to $1500.00. Recipients are eligible to reapply each year.
Application Procedure:
Applicants must submit a fully completed JCCIA Joseph U. Bottalla Scholarship application along with any required documents as specified on the application form. The application, a 500-word essay on how your Italian heritage has influenced you, and a current school transcript must be submitted to the JCCIA by the deadline specified on the application. The application can be found on the JCCIA website and should be completed and submitted electronically, along with any required documents (if applicable), to jcc@jccia.com as a single pdf file.
