Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship Program

Overview
Each spring, The University of Alabama names one incoming freshman as a Coca-Cola First Generation Scholar. The recipient is chosen through a competitive interview process conducted during the student’s senior year of high school. This award is limited to incoming, first-year students who are Alabama residents. The scholarship can be renewed for up to four years provided the student maintains a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Eligibility
To be considered for the Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship, applicants must:
- Qualify as a first-generation college student: parents have no more than two years of education beyond high school and do not hold a post-secondary degree.
- Be an Alabama resident.
- Have a high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
- Demonstrate financial need.
How to Apply (for high school seniors)
- Submit the UA Scholarship Application by January 15. On that form, indicate interest in the university’s first-generation scholarship programs and answer the attached essay questions specific to the first-generation scholarship.
- File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.
- Take part in an interview with the Selection Panel during the spring semester.
Requirements for Recipients
Students chosen as Coca-Cola First Generation Scholars are required to:
- Enroll in a specified general studies course during their first fall semester.
- Keep a minimum 3.0 GPA to maintain the award.
- Attend and participate in all required program activities, events, and service projects.
- Meet regularly with the First Generation Scholarships program manager.
If you meet the eligibility criteria and complete the application steps by the deadlines, you will be considered for the competitive selection process held in the spring.
