The AEG Foundation, representing the Association of Environmental & Engineering Geologists, annually provides over 25 scholarships and grants to support both students and professionals in the fields of environmental and engineering geology. The awards, which vary from $500 to $5,000, are designed to cover costs such as tuition, field camps, research, and professional development. The Foundation places a particular emphasis on supporting a diverse range of applicants, including those from different racial backgrounds and academic interests, from all over the United States.

Marliave Scholar Program:

Who Can Apply: 

  • Full-time senior or graduate students enrolled in engineering geology or geological engineering programs at accredited U.S. institutions.

Application Requirements:

  • A nomination or sponsorship letter from an AEG member, preferably a faculty member, employer, or geoscience professional, ideally a Student Chapter Advisor or AEG Section Officer.
  • Two additional reference letters from professionals assessing the applicant’s qualifications.
  • A statement detailing current and future involvement with AEG.
  • Commitment to provide a written report within one year of receiving the award, detailing the experience and adherence to grant conditions.

Shlemon Quaternary Engineering Geology Scholarship:

  • Graduate students pursuing studies in quaternary engineering geology.

Martin L. Stout Scholarship:

Who Can Apply: 

  • Undergraduate or graduate students studying environmental or engineering geology.

Beardsley-Kuper Field Camp Scholarship:

Who Can Apply: 

  • Undergraduate or post-baccalaureate students attending field camps at accredited institutions with a focus on environmental and engineering geology.
  • Applicants who have not previously received this award.

Application Requirements:

  • Residency in the U.S. and enrollment in a U.S. institution.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.9, confirmed by a school transcript.
  • Applicants from underrepresented groups (e.g., Black, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaska Native) are encouraged to apply, although this is not a requirement.
