Eligibility Criteria for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship:
To qualify for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- They must be high school seniors residing or studying in the following zip codes and expected to graduate by June 2025: 98104, 98108, 98118, 98122, 98134, 98144. Schools within these zip codes, including Franklin, Garfield, NOVA, interagency sites, Rainier Beach, South Lake, Cleveland, and independent schools, are all eligible.
- Their family's income for 2023 must not surpass the amount specified for their family size in the provided chart.
- They must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 up until the fall term of 2025.
- They must intend to attend a non-profit, accredited college or university in the United States beginning in the fall of 2026.
- They must file either a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA).
- They must complete and submit the application along with the necessary supporting documents.
Please note that international students, students on foreign exchange or visas, and out-of-state residents are not eligible.
Application Deadline:
The application period commences on October 1, 2025, and concludes on January 31, 2026. All supporting documents must be submitted by February 7, 2026.
To be eligible for the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship for the 2026-2027 academic year, applicants must meet all the eligibility requirements and complete the following steps:
Required Documentation:
- Submit an online application by January 31, 2026.
- Upload the following documents by February 7, 2026:
- An unofficial transcript from your high school showing grades up to fall 2024 and your cumulative GPA.
- If you are a Running Start student, ensure your transcript reflects your college credits.
- Request the following document through the application portal:
- Letter of recommendation: Make sure your recommenders submit their letter of recommendation by February 7, 2026.
