USA Softball of Sacramento Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by USA Softball of Sacramento
USA Softball of Sacramento is committed to promoting higher education opportunities as part of its mission. To this end, we offer scholarships to deserving individuals each year.
Every year, we provide two scholarships to athletes, with applications closing on December 31st of the current year.
Evelyn Andrews Memorial Scholarship
Open to High School Seniors
As the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, USA Softball is dedicated to fostering advanced education opportunities. The Evelyn Andrews Memorial Scholarship, offered by USA Softball of Sacramento, is designed to support student-athletes who have participated in our local tournament program.
The Evelyn Andrews Scholarship is given annually to players who exemplify the dedication, attitude, and spirit of Evelyn Andrews. Evelyn was a passionate softball player who participated in USA Softball Tournaments, particularly in the Sacramento area.
At 17, Evelyn was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in 2017. After overcoming cancer, she attended Humboldt State on a softball scholarship. In the fall of 2019, she was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, a blood cancer caused by her 2017 chemotherapy. Despite defeating cancer a second time, Evelyn tragically passed away in February 2020 due to a blood clotting issue common in AML patients. However, her spirit lives on, with a score of Evelyn-2, cancer-0.
The funding for this scholarship comes from the generous contributions of local tournament directors and various special events throughout the year.
Stanley Fingerut Memorial Scholarship
Open to current college athletes attending local colleges.
The Stanley Fingerut Annual Scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to a student-athlete attending a college within the jurisdiction of USA Softball of Sacramento. Stan was a respected umpire who dedicated over 40 years to officiating college, high school, and recreational softball in the Sacramento area. He served as the Sacramento ASA Umpire-In-Chief from 1979-1989, the ASA Regional Umpire-In-Chief from 1989-2000, and was a member of the ASA National Umpire Staff from 1989-2000. Stan had a deep love for women's softball, appreciating the skill, competitiveness, and passion of the players. The Stanley Fingerut Scholarship Program is a fitting tribute to his enduring legacy and love for the sport.
