Required application materials (all items must be included)
1. Completed and signed Fort Myer Thrift Shop High School Senior Scholarship Application and Agreement form. Print, sign, and submit the form. Both the applicant and the sponsor must sign; if the sponsor is deceased or is on an unaccompanied deployment, the other parent or legal guardian may sign instead. Typed/printed names alone are not acceptable—original signatures are required.
2. Copy of military dependent ID card. Submit a clear photocopy (front and back). Check the card’s expiration date; expired ID cards are not acceptable.
3. Official high school transcript. An official transcript must be provided in a sealed envelope and bear a school official’s signature. If the school requires sending the transcript directly to the Fort Myer Thrift Shop, mail it to the address provided by the Thrift Shop. All transcripts must be postmarked no later than April 23, 2026; failure to meet this postmark deadline will render the application incomplete.
4. SAT or ACT score report (if scores are not shown on the official transcript). You may include a printed copy from the College Board or ACT website, provided the page clearly displays the applicant’s full name and the scores. Documents with names added afterward by handwriting or by typing/pasting onto the score page will not be accepted.
5. One-page list of all high schools attended, including names and locations.
6. One-page summary of awards and activities. List honors, recognitions, school and community involvement, leadership roles, service projects, internships, and/or employment that demonstrate academic achievement and leadership potential.
7. Essay (maximum two double-spaced pages). Respond to ONE of the following prompts:
- As a member of a military family, what experiences led you to pursue post-secondary education?
- Describe two or three achievements or experiences that have prepared you for college or a certification program.
- How will post-secondary education help you reach your career objectives?
8. One letter of recommendation. Provide a single letter from a school official, counselor, teacher, current or former employer, or community leader. The letter must be submitted in a sealed envelope and include the writer’s address and telephone number. In the introduction the writer should identify the applicant by name once and then use “he” or “she” for the remainder of the letter. No additional recommendation letters will be reviewed.
Reminder: Applications missing any required items or not meeting the eligibility/residency criteria will not be considered.
