Mandy Stoll Scholar Athlete Award

Introduction / Background
In honor of Mandy Stoll, the FIAAA established the Mandy Stoll Scholar‑Athlete award. Mandy graduated from St. Stephen’s Episcopal School where she distinguished herself academically and athletically: she was a member of the National Honor Society, served as yearbook editor, and participated on Student Council. On the tennis court she was undefeated in high school competition, earned six varsity letters, and received a full scholarship to Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. At Stetson she was team captain and was named Most Valuable Player for the 1986–87 season, became the university’s No. 1 women’s tennis player, and set a school record with twenty consecutive victories. Mandy’s life was tragically lost in April 1988. The FIAAA sponsors this award each year to commemorate her achievements.

Purpose
To recognize outstanding Florida high school senior scholar‑athletes (male and female) who exemplify academic achievement and varsity athletic participation.

Eligibility and Requirements
- Applicant must be a high school senior.
- Minimum unweighted GPA: 3.0.
- Minimum standardized test score: 1200 SAT or 26 ACT.
- Submit an official high school transcript through the first semester of the senior year (copy acceptable).
- Participation in varsity athletics for at least two (2) years, with at least one year of varsity participation in 12th grade.
- All nomination information must be provided on the official nomination and resume forms.
- Provide a color photo in JPEG format; save the file using the applicant’s first and last name.
- Nomination forms must be signed by the Principal, Athletic Director, or an FHSAA Representative.

Nomination and Submission Process
- Each Florida high school may nominate one male and one female candidate.
- Nomination materials are distributed to every FIAAA District Director ahead of the Annual State Conference.
- School Athletic Directors must forward completed applications to their FIAAA District Director no later than April 11, 2025.
- District Directors will compile submissions and send completed nomination forms to the Chairperson of the FIAAA Higher Education Committee for review.

Selection and Awards
- The FIAAA Higher Education Committee will evaluate nominees and select ten (10) Mandy Stoll Scholar‑Athletes each year.
- Winners will be announced and presented with awards (checks and plaques) at the awards banquet during the FIAAA Annual State Conference in May.
- Each state winner will receive a $500 award and a commemorative plaque.

Additional Scholarship Opportunity (NIAAA)
- Students may also apply for the NIAAA $1,500 Student‑Athlete Scholarship. To apply, complete the NIAAA application and submit the two essays required by the NIAAA scholarship guidelines, as outlined on NIAAA.org. From the NIAAA home page choose AWARDS and then select the NIAAA Student Athlete Scholarship for details and application materials.
- Note: the school’s Athletic Director must be a current NIAAA member for a student to be eligible for the NIAAA scholarship.

Important Dates
- Submission deadline to FIAAA District Director: April 11, 2025.
- Winners announced and awards presented at the FIAAA State Conference in May.
