Intro
Mira Mesa Town Council (MMTC) is inviting graduating high school seniors who live in Mira Mesa and have been active volunteers in the community to apply for its annual community-service scholarship. The Verne Goodwin Scholarship Fund will present three $1,000 awards in June. There is no minimum GPA requirement. Eligible applicants must reside in Mira Mesa, be members of their high school graduating class, and plan to continue their education at a 4-year college or university, a 2-year community college, or a vocational/technical program.
Eligibility
- Graduating senior this year from a local high school
- Current resident of Mira Mesa
- Planning to begin further education within the next year at a college, university, or technical school
Essay instructions
- Topic: A narrative describing your personal volunteer experience
- Length and format: Typed, double-spaced, 250–400 words, 12-point font
- Content to address:
- Which volunteer project changed how you view volunteering and why
- Which volunteer project was your favorite and the reasons it stands out
Required application materials
- Cover sheet: one page with your full name, mailing address, phone number, email, and graduating high school
- Community service log: list each volunteer activity and the number of hours for each
- Reference letter: from a supervisor or leader connected to your volunteer work (required)
- Letter of recommendation: from school staff or a community leader (recommended)
- Essay: as specified above
Notes
- Awards: three scholarships of $1,000 each, awarded in June
- Selection is based on community service involvement; academic minimums are not required
